Friends of Flinders #5

Surf Ironman and Gold Coast native, Max shares his favourite coffee hang out and love of the water

Hey Max thanks for being a Friend of Flinders, what do you do?

Professional Surf Ironman

Where do you call home?

Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast

What’s your favourite local?

Metro Coffee, Broadbeach

What’s your favourite Australian Beach?

It’s hard to go past my own backyard. Im lucky enough live on the beach. So any of the amazing beaches here on the Gold Coast would be my favourite spot.

How did you get into your profession?

Like most of us who are lucky enough to grow up in Australia, I spent a lot of time on the beach, so growing up with a love of the ocean and sport in general, it was a natural progression into Surf Ironman racing.

What’s the most important thing about your profession?

First and foremost, the skill set of being able to keep people safe at the beach. And now as an athlete, hopefully inspiring young Australians to be active and healthy.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you be doing?

I’m crazy about sport, so I’d like to think I could commentate sport, or even my own podcast.

What do you do in your down time?

Drink coffee, play golf (poorly) and spend time with my friends and family.

What advice would you give your younger self?

To enjoy the journey. I got stuck (and still do) in worrying about where I wasn’t, instead of enjoying and trusting the process.

Lastly, what is your favourite Flinders garment?

These Bronte chinos are some of the comfiest pants I've ever worn and are definitely the new favourites.
