Friends of Flinders #10

Creative Director, stylist, owner of Men’s magazine Cobber and mentor with Mob in Fashion, Rhys chats with us about his multi faceted career in the creative space.

Hi Rhys, where do you call home?

I live in Naarm, Melbourne, but I call Echuca home which is my native homeland. Echuca in my language means “meeting of the rivers”

What’s your favourite local?

My fave local in Naarm is Joanies in Thornbury

Where is your favourite place to visit in Australia

I’m constantly traveling around Australia with my work, obsessed with shooting on Country, but being back on my country is it for me.

What do you do?

I’m a Creative Director/Stylist plus own Men’s magazine Cobber,  Director of Mate Model Management and I’m a Mentor with Mob in Fashion.

How did you get into your profession?

I broke into the industry first starting in PR in 2005, then launching a magazine called Academy for Men back in the day.

What’s the most important thing about your profession?

For me I really enjoy showcasing new talent and shedding light on them so they move forward, whether models, photographers or other creatives in my industry.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you be doing?

I feel I’m in the place I need to be finally. I’ve worked in hair, PR, owned a cafe and even tried being a pop star.

What does a perfect weekend look like?

Renovating a house in Italy.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Trust your gut, tap into mediation early, and be brave.

Favourite Flinders piece?

I love the Bondi jacket and Bronte chinos in black - great for looking sharp on the job when you need to go out after for dinner with clients or the team.
